Chemical Section Supervisor
The Supervisor, Chemical Section helps manage personnel in the laboratory and resolve conflicts as well as oversee the training program and ongoing improvements. Additionally, the supervisor provides technical leadership and support for ISURA research and analysis in support of laboratory operations, product and process development, quality control, environmental control, technology, and other applications.
The Supervisor, Chemical Section is responsible for these accountabilities while taking into consideration the company’s commitment to quality management, safety, sustainability, customer service and superior analytical testing competence as demonstrated by ISURA’s ISO 17025 accreditation, and in the planning and implementation of all actions related to areas of responsibility.
Permanent Full-Time (40 hours)
Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (flexible)
$75,500 – $90,000
In this role, you will:
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and other staff on research and testing priorities.
• Mentor, train and advise other Lab (senior) chemists and technicians; schedule direct reports, assign work priorities and deliver performance management duties.
• Monitor product release and associated turn-around-times (TAT) for Chemical Section standard operational testing.
• Participate in and oversee lab investigations, including out-of-specification (OOS) root cause analysis.
• Oversee and perform QC testing (as per pharmacopeial or in-house methods) and assess data against pre-determined specifications on raw materials, in-process samples, and final products utilizing Eliza, HPLC, HPTLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS, Orbitrap and any other associated analytical equipment.
• Supervise and perform preventative maintenance and calibration activities for laboratory and production equipment, including advanced devices (e.g. Eliza, HPLC, HPTLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS, Orbitrap), train other users on these processes.
• Oversee programs of sample and data collection and analysis to identify and quantify environmental toxicants.
• Participates in interdisciplinary research and development projects.
• Prepare written reports for both internal review and publication.
• Supervise and conduct research to develop new chemical formulations, products, processes and methods.
• Supervise and conduct fundamental and applied research into the synthesis and properties of chemical compounds and the mechanisms of chemical reactions.
• May participate in the commercialization of new products.
• Source and procure QC consumables and chemicals.
• Demonstrate understanding of all facets of the ISURA laboratory information management system (LIMS).
• Lead auditing or validation of technical document activities.
• Contribute and produce reports assessing lab performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects working with process engineers or other professionals.
• Follow and adhere to all the instructions including work procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and ISO 17025 and 9001 requirements.
• Observe and enforce all company and department safety policies as outlined in the company policies and training sessions.
• Other duties as assigned.
You have:
Technical
• Master’s degree in one of the chemical or biological sciences.
• Experience in analytical or bioanalytical lab (5+ years).
• Experience in Mass Spectrometry is essential.
• Proficient with computer software; MS Word, Access & Excel.
• Strong knowledge of and experience with LIMS and ISO 17025.
